The Handy Handbook for Travelling to the United States: Historical Places Edition

Travelling to the United States is one of the more viable options when you want to find a good place to wet your soles on. The USA is a great country ripe with things to discover and people to meet, after all, so it would not do you wrong if you want to give the country a visit.

For today’s article, we want to discuss something that will make history nerds get their brains excited. We want to talk about the best historical places that you must visit if you are a historical nerd and you are planning to travel to the States. Without further ado, here are those spots:

Mount Rushmore, of course

We want to start with one of the most obvious places to visit if you are trying to learn history in the US. Mount Rushmore is basically a mountain with four stone faces on its side. The four stone faces are owned not by your typical stone heads, of course. Carved to the side of the mountain are the faces of the four undeniable important people for the States: Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Theodore Roosevelt.

Located in the rural part of South Dakota, you cannot learn a lot from this place aside from how important those four people are, but there is no fee if you want to give the place a look. You can also join in programs made by the local rangers, which are all free.

Gettysburg, which is located in Pennsylvania

The battle of Gettysburg is one of the most ‘popular’ battles in American Civil War history. This is basically the place the Union Army turned the table on the Confederate Army, so it should tell you why a lot of modern Americans are very sentimental about this place. The battlefield is pretty much free to explore, though you would not learn a lot from it unless you decide to go on a tour which will cost you somewhere around US$35.

New Orleans of Louisiana

This city basically got a lot of history behind it that we decide to recommend the WHOLE city as a place that you can visit. That is right, folks. No specific museum and no specific road. The whole city is brimming with a history that is waiting to be cracked open by the curious ones. It got a trace of the French in it, a sprinkle of Spanish, and a lot of American, so the city covers a lot of cultures.

For some reason, you can find a lot of haunted tours here. If that is your thing, you will definitely love this city.

Lastly, you should give Mackinaw City a visit

Located in Michigan, Mackinaw City is a place ripe with wonders all around. Historical sites are abundant here, so if you are trying to find out more about the history of America, this is the definite place to go. All of the places are also cheap to visit, too, with many of them costing you about US$12 each.

The United States is not just about Washington and New York, no. It is a country that is teeming with wonderful places to visit, and most of them will definitely be able to teach you a lesson or two about American history. We hope that this article can help you when you are travelling to the United States, dear travellers.
