5P Guidelines on Sustainable Construction

Sustainable construction adheres to the 5P guidelines, namely Progress, People, Planet, Prosperity, and Proficiency. The sustainable construction process involves innovative concepts in design, integration of materials and products, building structures, and installations within buildings.

In this stage, the approach to construction technology and processes, operation, and maintenance of buildings will also be considered. Buildings damaged by the earthquake in Bali or in other areas in Indonesia did not follow the rules of earthquake-resistant buildings.

Considering that Bali is a world tourist destination, this is the time to set an example for other countries to create residential houses, villas, or resorts with the concept of sustainable construction.

When we talk about People, we mean that every development must adhere to ethical standards in every phase of the project life cycle. Contribution is very influential to the formation of the environment and values in society.

When talking about the Planet, it is an effort to minimize the negative impact on the environment during the project life cycle and efficiency in energy and materials. Many houses, villas, and resorts in Bali utilize renewable energy rather than fossil energy.

The prosperity requires builders to have innovative models for financing, flexibility to future changes, resilience to economic conditions, and resource economics applied in construction.

Proficiency, i.e. builders improve existing conditions in natural and man-made contexts related to landscapes, infrastructure, urban networks, and architecture.

The application of the concept of sustainable building in Bali can be said to be very appropriate. The concept of green buildings in villas and resorts is an attraction for domestic and international tourists. The use of solar energy in villas is one of the applications of sustainable building consoles.

The application of sustainable building certainly cannot be applied in all locations in Indonesia. Its application must be viewed contextually because the characteristics of each region in Indonesia are diverse, so it is necessary to examine the needs of each region again.
